Autogenous Bone Grafting in Implant Dentistry
The Gold Standard
Autogenous bone grafting remains to be the gold standard of hard tissue augmentation in implant dentistry. Not only does it have solid scientific background for its use, but it has stood the test of time for decades for the benefit of numerous patients.
Professor Hessam Nowzari, a world-known researcher, has been extensively involved in research and clinical works of intra-oral autogenous bone grafting since his time as full-time program director of Advanced Periodontics at the University of Southern California, School of Dentistry, dating back to 1995. In peer-reviewed journals, he owns the most publications in the field of this gold standard approach. Along with his graduate school student Dr. Mao-Chi Tuan, a 1997 USC graduate, they have hosted hundreds of seminars and meetings in Taiwan, including those dedicated to autogenous bone grafting and its soft tissue management.

自體骨補骨至今一直是植牙領域補骨的黃金準則，因為它不僅有堅實的科學根據，它更是已經過數十年時間的考驗，為無數的病人增進了生活福祉。
Nowzari教授，一位世界知名的科學研究家，從他在1995年在美國南加州大學擔任全職的牙周研究所主任起，廣泛地參與口內自體骨補骨的研究和臨床工作；在牙醫同行評審的期刊，Nowzari教授有著本領域最多的研究報告。他與他南加大研究所時期的學生段茂琦醫師，包括自體骨補骨及其軟組織處理的專題，兩人一同在台灣舉辦了上百次的學術研討會議。

Compared with many market-driven bone grafting techniques, autogenous bone grafts possess unparalleled advantages that others cannot match.

It is the only hard tissue augmentation method that elicits osteoclastic resorption required in osteoinduction.

It is the only approach proven to engage numerous growth factors, such as osteocalcin, TGF, PDGF, IGF-II, TGF-β, BMPs, etc., in bone grafting.

It remains to be the most rapid pathway to produce revascularization in transplants.

It is the sole bone grafting choice not to induce a negative immune response, such as ROS, reactive oxygen species, in patients.

Autogenous transplants are the only grafts capable of entering the remodeling stage in a short time of 3 to 4 months after grafting.

Unlike those bone grafts with an animal origin, it has zero risks of disease transmission.
With a knowledge of this approach in biology and techniques, we can easily achieve uneventful healing for our patients and obtain good quality true bone tissue for implant osseointegration.

Taiwan-Southern California Dental Education Center was established in 1998 by Dr. Mao-Chi Tuan in Taipei with the support of Professor Nowzari. Since then, this center, with 3 branches in 3 major Taiwan cities: Taipei, Taichung, and Kaohsiung, has helped over a thousand dentists in Taiwan and from other parts of the world in the enhancement of dental science and clinical skills.
台灣-南加州牙醫研究中心是經由Nowzari教授的支持，由段茂琦醫師於台北成立於1998年。從那時起，台灣-南加州牙醫研究中心逐漸擴展為台北、台中和高雄3個分部，幫助了超過1000位來自台灣與世界各地的牙醫師增進了關於牙醫科學和臨床技巧方面的知識。
